Since its inception in 2001, NYL has bee committed to delivering fun, innovative and educational projects.
We work with young people in Newham and specialise with working with Muslim Youth from the South Asian and Somalian communities. As Muslims who have grown up in the UK, we are well positioned to help them understand how they can become sucessful Citizens.
Our core focus to date has been on the following projects.
We have two teams participating in a League completion, the weekly training session has been the mainstay of NYLs activities since the project was launched.
We host The Sadaqa Cup – a biennial football tournament that aims to bring young people from all backgrounds together to raise money for charitable cause.
The highligh of the NYL Calender – a weekend away consisting of challenging activites and new experiences. To date we have completed 5 residentials.
FA Mars Just Play
We hold regular training sessions for the FA Mars Just Play project on behalf of City of London at Harrow Road Pavilion, Wanstead Flats Playing Fields.
We have worked with the Drug Action Team to deliver seminars and have organised gatherings to discuss topics including citizenship and achieving success.
We have been involved in delivering lectures entitled “Islam and Youth Work” at The YMCA George Williams College.
We co-operate with Newham Community Connection and Azhar Academy in delivering Study Support Classes for GCSE and A-Level students.
Advice and Support
We provide a confidential advice and support service for young people discussing issues relating to drug abuse and other personal problems.
We actively encourage our participants to get involved in organising projects. They are provided with training and mentoring to help them give something back to the community. We have supported 3 young people in completing FA Level 1 Coaching.
