NYL FC 4 - Sonali Otith 2
by Tazud Miah
First Half
NYL went down 1-0 in the first couple of minutes after a defensive tackle gave the opposing striker the ball and an easy opportunity to score. NYL kept their nerve and through Zaeem their effervescent right winger got one back. He recieved the ball at the corner flag, side stepped the left back and scored a brilliant goal.
It became a family affair whem his brother Naeem scored with an excellent shot from 18 yards out. Zaeem responded by scoring another to put NYL 3-1 up. Sayfuz, passionate as ever, ended up with a yellow card due to his robust tackling. The half ended with Sonali Otith lauching attack after attack but unable to capitalise on their possession.
Second half
The second half saw Sayfuz recieve another yellow card and his marching orders. NYL imploded for a short while and Sonali got a goal back when goalkeeper Jakir made a mistake by coming out to collect the ball. With the score at 3-2 Sonali began to dominate the game and a comeback looked on the cards.
Yusuf from Sonali saw his shot cleared off the line by one of his own players seeking glory - the unfortunate player managed to spoon his shot over the bar; had he left the ball the score would have been 3-3.
NYL had a goal disallowed when the referee signalled for an off-side even though the linesman did not flag for it. Zaeem completed his hat-trick when he shot straight at the keeper who was unable to hold the ball. The final score was a deserved 4-2 to NYL.
